55 and Better

HandsOn Suburban Chicago believes older adults should be treated with respect and dignity and have meaningful opportunities to contribute to the world. We collaborate with nonprofits, schools, and government entities to give those 55 and better a place to share their time, talents, and resources in impactful ways.

Intergenerational Pen Pals

The HOSC Intergenerational Pen Pals program connects underserved elementary and middle school students with older adults (55+). This program aims to improve students’ academic performance, emotional well-being, and social development by creating meaningful relationships and mutually-beneficial learning. By forming personal connections, students can overcome obstacles to academic success and build trusting, transformative relationships. Interacting with supportive, older adults outside their own families helps students create positive associations with school and encourages their educational growth.
